Don’t Miss This Year’s USASA Veterans Cup!

USASA is excited to share that registration for the 2026 USASA Veterans Cup is off to a strong start, with more than 60 teams already registered for this year’s tournament.

This year’s event will take place in Burlington, Vermont from July 15–19, and it is shaping up to be one teams will not want to miss. Now is the time to encourage your teams to register. With strong participation already building, great hotel options, prize money for champions, and additional tournament activities planned, this year’s Veterans Cup promises to be one of our best yet.

Division Start Dates:

  • Over 60 and Older: Starts July 15
  • Over 40, Over 50, Over 55: Start July 16
  • Over 30 and Open Division: Start July 17

We have also included a flyer with a QR code that you can share with your local leagues, other clubs, and any tournaments you attend this spring. We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word and encouraging more teams to be part of this year’s event.

We also want to highlight that we have secured a strong selection of hotel options for participants. We worked directly with the hotels to arrange room blocks and negotiate the lowest rates available. These options include a variety of accommodations, including some apartment-style lodging, to give teams flexibility based on their needs and budget. Don't miss out on these savings.

New for this year, we are also offering prize money for division champions, which adds another exciting element to the competition.

In addition, there will be a major beer festival in taking place during the tournament, and we will be announcing more big news related to that soon. It will be another great feature that adds to the overall tournament experience for players, families, and supporters.

Teams can find all tournament information, including registration details, hotel information, and event updates, on the tournament website:

Thank you in advance for your continued support and for helping us promote the Veterans Cup.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Lucia Fontes-Borts, beloved wife of David Borts, President of the RI Soccer Association, Rhode Island. Our heartfelt condolences go out to David and his family during this difficult time. Lucia Fontes-Borts, 67, of Seekonk, MA, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the beloved wife of David A. Borts for 35 years. Born in the Cape Verde Islands, she was the daughter of the late Eduardo V. and Regina (Barbosa) Fontes. Lucia was a Nurse Practitioner at several health organizations, an adjunct professor at Brown University Medical School, a member of AANP, and a Portuguese-language radio broadcaster in Providence. Lucia earned her Bachelor’s at Rhode Island College, MSN-FNP at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Sacred Heart University. Lucia’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. She found happiness in traveling, loved being at the beach, had a passion for gardening, and was a proud member of the Dahlia Society. When Lucia emigrated to the United States, she worked exceptionally hard, including being a founding member of the first Cape Verdean church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island — The Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her kindness and devotion touched many lives. She is survived by her husband, children Alex, Andrew, and Liana (fiancé Troy); grandson Ryan; siblings Jose (Maria Ivone), Ligia, Maria de Fatima (Luther Veiga), Antonio (Carla Alhinho), Maria do Rosario (Jon Carson); and nieces and nephews Patricia, Keila, Dulce, Gabriela, and Luca. Her funeral will be on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 8:30 AM from Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, with a Mass at 9:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church, No. Carpenter Street, East Providence. Burial at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Calling hours: Sunday, 3–6 PM, Perry-McStay Funeral Home. As Lucia was a breast cancer survivor, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory be made to Susan G. Komen. Your support and compassion are deeply appreciated during this time of mourning.
